Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Shon has been involved in racing since he was about 6 years old. The family has been racing since Shon’s Grandfather, Bill, raced in the 50’s and 60’s. Shon’s father, Lenny, was the crew chief for Bill Elk, his brother in the 70's. They raced at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway (PPMS), Motordrome Speedway, and Latrobe Speedway. Lenny later owned his own car, which he drove at PPMS.

After moving to the Reading area in 1986, Shon and Lenny helped a local modified driver, Kenny Hatt, for a number of years before Lenny purchased a street stock in 1994. Lenny ran the car at Susquehanna Speedway at the end of the '94 season and then ran a full season in 1995. During the '95 season the team also ran Big Diamond Raceway and Penn National Speedway. It was at Big Diamond in 1995 that Shon saw his first action behind the wheel. He eventually would be black flagged in his first run after spinning in turn 3 (what a tough start). Shon also hit the track at Penn National a few times in '95.

In 1996, Lenny purchased the former Joe Vaccaro 1995 Tobias chassis. The team ran a full season in the Sportsman division with Lenny twisting the wheel of the Larry Lombardo powered car. Shon strapped in twice that year at Susky in the teams final year. Shon went back to school and Elk Motorsports would lie dormant for the next 9 years.

During the fall of 2004, a friend of Shon's, Chris White, gave the Crown Vic to Shon with the intention of building an enduro car. With much last minute preparation, Elk Motorsports made its return to the track at Big Diamond in September of 2005. With spray-bombed numbers, the car hit the track and was very competitive until overheating and eventually blowing the motor.

The team just completed 2007 while competing at Big Diamond, New Egypt and Mahoning Valley Speedway. 2008 is just around the corner and the team will open up at Big Diamond Raceway on April 20, 2008. Check the news and results pages for more details to come!
