The 2009 racing season has officially opened for Elk Motorsports.
The new car, a 1984 Chevy Monte Carlo, has been completed with the exception of the lettering. "Nothing Comes Easy V" definitely lived up to its name. Many trials and tribulations were overcome to get the car to the track for the opener at Big Diamond Raceway this past Sunday.
Shon continued his impressive streak of drawing for position and drew #77 (typical luck). That put the 10x Monte Carlo in the 30th starting position at the drop of the green.
Right out of the box the car was extremely fast and Shon moved into the 10th postion by lap 7. Shortly after, a small motor issue sidelined the Elk Motorsports team for the day with a 30th place finish.
Although the run was short, it was a very positive sign for the team for things to come.
Engine builder Dan "The Shermanator" Sherman should have the motor back together by Thursday night. Shon and the team plan to head to Grandview Speedway on Sunday April 26th for the Spring Fling NEETS event.
We thank you for your support and look forward to a great 2009! Stop by the race shop or check out the website at www.elkmotorsports.com for more details

The 2008 racing season has officially come to a close for Elk Motorsports.
The final race at Grandview was exciting but a bit of a disappointment. Shon started 13th out of the 33 car field. After slipping back early (literally slipping because the track was really wet), Shon and the Crown Vic (nicknamed the Edsel) charged to the front. While running 3rd and reeling in the leader, the left front tie rod snapped and the team was done for the day. Shon completed approximately 78 of the scheduled 131 laps.
The very next week, Shon delivered the Crown Vic to New Egypt Speedway to its new owner, Katie Lyons (daughter of former Sportsman racer Mike Lyons). Katie was surprised to see the car in the pits waiting for her. She has been a past winner in the demo derby division at New Egypt.
So what's next?
2009 will mean a new car for Elk Motorsports. Shon has purchased a 1984 Chevy Monte Carlo and is in the process of stripping the parts off so that the roll cage can be installed. This car will become "Nothing Comes Easy V," which follows the slogan that Shon's father, Lenny, has used on all of his race cars.
We thank you for your support in 2008 and look forward to a great 2009! Stop by the race shop to check out the progress on the new car.

The Big Diamond season has come to a close. In the season finally, Shon started the race from the 6th position. The 10x made it out front to lead its first laps in Shon's career. While having some handling issues (the left front brake caliper was hanging up), Shon and the team managed to hang on for a 7th place effort. This included at spin with 5 laps to go.
All in all, it was a successful season at Big Diamond. The Elk Motorsports team finished 6th in points.
We will be heading to Grandview for the NEETS Frankenduro 131 lap event this Sunday, October 19th. The racing starts at 4 PM with the 4 cylinders opening the event.

This week was quite different for the Sinking Spring based driver. A problem with a fuel leak had the #10 Crown Vic starting shotgun from the 50th position. Through the trials and tribulations of two flat tires, cars spinning in front of Shon, and an intake hose sucking shut, the team (and a team effort it was) salvaged a 13th place finish. This was a 150 lap event and double points, so Shon and the team slipped back to the 5th spot in points.
The car is bruised but not broken. A new steering box, a center link and some new tires will get the team back on track for the special Saturday night show on October 11, 2008 at Big Diamond. This will take place after the Legend Nationals. We will also be heading back to Grandview Speedway on October 19th to race with the NEETS gang. October 26th will bring the final event of the 2008 season (we think) at New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey. Check out the website for more details.

The Elk Motorsports team headed to Big Diamond for the Nutty Buddy Enduro #3. Shon had some bad luck before the start and was forced to start at the rear of the 51 car field. But through it all, the team stayed out of trouble and salvaged a great 4th place finish! This moved the team into 4th place (just 5 points out of third) for the season-long chase.

Sunday July 13th was a washout at Big Diamond. Mother Nature let loose and the rain ended the Nutty Buddy enduro event #3 just before race time.
But, the Elk Motorsports #10 matched a career best finish of 2nd place on July 20th at Grandview Speedway. The event was a 100 lap race promoted by NEETS and was labeled the GRANDURO.
Shon tried to change his luck of drawing for position by having friend and first-time attendee Roger Feeg draw for him. Apparently Shon's luck rubbed off on Roger and he drew #87. That put Shon deep in the field of 44 6/8 cylinder cars where he would start in the middle of the 13th row in position #38.
Through the carnage of dead cars on the track, Shon managed a 2nd place finish just one lap behind legendary enduro racer Tim Pauch (brother of legendary modified driver Billy Pauch). It was an awesome finish for the Elk Motorsports team. Some of the best enduro drivers on the east coast were in attendance. In fact, a fan website stated that several hundred victories came from the top 15 finishers on Sunday. We hope ours is coming soon!
I almost forgot something. Due to having more than one #10, we were asked to become #10x. I think we will be keeping that "x" for the rest of the year.

On May 11, Shon started 37th on a track that just got some new clay. Despite the rough conditions, Shon crossed the finish line 8th. After tech, however, 5 cars were deemed illegal and Shon actually was credited for 3rd place.
On June 15, Shon started 28th and had a tough day. He was up to 4th early on when an encounter with a lap car caused a left rear flat. The car started overheating and later lead to an engine failure. A disappointing 19th place finish spurred the team to get a jump start on replacing the engine for the next event on July 13th at Big Diamond Raceway.
The team also plans to attend the NEETS enduro on July 20th at Grandview Speedway. Hope to see you at one of those races!

This week the Elk Motorsports Team raced at New Egypt Speedway. The event was a 50 lapper and Shon started 7th.
A flat tire around lap 20 put Shon a few laps down and he finished a respectable 7th. The car is in one piece and the only damage was a cut tire.
The previous Sunday we had a disappointing rainout at Big Diamond Raceway. We were ready to head on to the speedway when a downpour ended all hopes of racing. Shon's phenomenal draw of #94 slated a 34th starting spot. The team will head back to Big Diamond on May 11th and will be starting in the same 34th spot. The rained out show will be rescheduled.
We just got confirmation from Joe at NEETS that a date will be set for an enduro at Grandview Speedway. Keep your calendar open for that one because it will be a blast on The Hill!

"On Friday, February 15th, I had the opportunity to do a phone interview (listen now) for Doug's Dirt Diary.com. Doug has a racing website that is very popular in the Eastern U.S. The site had more than 10 million hits in its 22 month existence. I sent an email to Doug asking him to add my website to his driver list and he emailed me back to do the interview. Although I was very nervous and excited, the interview was a lot of fun and I was flattered to say the least. Thanks Doug!"

The 2008 racing season is coming fast. The Elk Motorsports # 10 will be heading to Big Diamond on March 29 for a test-and-tune session after the season opening Big Block show.
Lenny and Shon worked diligently to strip last year's paint (view photos) and the car has been repainted by "Nutsy," owner of Laureldale Auto Sales in Temple, PA. The car will be ready for lettering by Keith from ParSigns in the next two weeks.
We also would like to announce a new marketing partner for 2008. The Dent Guy paintless dent repair will be added to the list of sponsors for 2008. Thanks go out to John and his family for their support. Stay tuned for more to come.

The 2008 racing season is rapidly approaching. There are many more opportunities for the Elk Motorsports #10 to hit the speedway next year. So far, Big Diamond, New Egypt and Mountain Speedways have announced an expanded schedule. Here is a tentative schedule. I plan to run all the Big Diamond races with a mix of other tracks when time permits. I am also waiting for NEETS to announce their schedule.
